Uptime monitoring for OCI resources

Uptime monitoring in Site24x7 ensures that your OCI resources are continuously monitored for availability and responsiveness. By tracking the uptime status, Site24x7 provides insights into service availability, detects outages, and helps prevent downtime, ensuring that your critical infrastructure remains operational.

Use case

Let's say you are monitoring a critical web application hosted on an OCI Compute Instance. By setting up uptime monitoring, Site24x7 checks the availability of the instance every minute. If the server becomes unreachable, Site24x7 immediately sends a notification to your DevOps team via Slack or other integrated third-party services, enabling them to respond swiftly to any outages and maintain high availability for your users.

Benefits of Site24x7's uptime monitoring for OCI resources

Site24x7's uptime monitoring for OCI resources provides you with the following benefits:

  • Identify and address potential downtime before it impacts your users.
  • Ensure that critical services such as Compute Instances, Object Storage, and Databases are always operational, enhancing the reliability of your infrastructure.
  • Minimize unplanned downtime by providing instant notifications and detailed insights, allowing you to act quickly and reduce associated costs.
  • Ensure that your OCI resources are accessible from all regions by monitoring from multiple global locations, providing real-time insights.

Configuring uptime monitoring

Uptime monitoring can be configured in three different methods as given below:

Method 1 - Editing a monitor

To configure uptime monitoring by editing a monitor:

  1. Go to the Site24x7 console and navigate to the Edit Monitor Details page of a monitored OCI resource.
  2. Toggle the Disable performance metrics collection option on or off according to your preference.

Method 2 - Defining an action as a configuration rule

While adding a configuration rule, in the Define Actions section, select Disable performance metrics collection and set the value as True. Upon enabling uptime monitoring, the changes will be reflected.

Method 3 - Using Tags

Configure uptime monitoring efficiently for resources using tags. Set the tag uptime_site24x7 as True, so that the respective OCI resource is considered for uptime monitoring during discovery or at the next data collection.
