Site24x7 Server Monitoring (Agent Based)
Server monitoring is an agent based monitoring from the cloud. This light weight, easy to install agent needs to be downloaded and installed on every server. The agent sends complete performance metrics every 5 minutes to Site24x7 data collector where users can view their reports via their browser.
An agent "heartbeat check" is also done every minute where the agent sends its status information to Site24x7. Now the server's uptime is decided by how long it has been since Site24x7 has received a heartbeat from the agent software running on the server.
Site24x7's Device Messaging System (DMS) ensures real time communication to the monitored servers. Communication to the DMS happens every 30 seconds and agent performs every action triggered by the user like start/stop process, discover service/processes, agent upgrade, root cause analysis, add port, add URL etc in no time.
Server Monitoring Architecture
In Site24x7, two data centers-Primary Data Center (PDC) and Disaster Recovery Data Center(DRDC) are set up at different locations to ensure monitoring services remain uninterrupted in the event of a data center failure. If there is any error in the PDC, the heartbeat information is automatically sent to the DRDC thus avoiding the trigger of false alerts due to intermittent network failure. When the server is shutdown under any normal circumstances, the agent clearly communicates to Site24x7 of the server shutdown.
In addition, before reporting an outage, Site24x7 checks the availability status of its own internal network by performing a "Network Sanity Check" and ensures that it is the resource which is down and not its network.
Site24x7 provides Windows agent for Windows server monitoring, MS Exchange sever monitoring and Linux agent for Linux server monitoring. Only a root user has the permission to install the Linux agent in a machine. Bulk installation of server agents can be done in multiple machines. For Windows, bulk installation is facilitated in 3 ways: Remote Commands, Active Directory and Custom Scripts. For Linux, bulk installation is done via Chef.
This feature is supported in the following Operating Systems:
Windows- Windows XP, 2000, 2003, 2008, 2012
Linux- Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS, RedHat, Madriva, Fedora, Suse, Amazon Linux, Gentoo
